TV One’s C3-340

Margate, Kent UK, December 13, 2012 – TV One is pleased to announce a 4 input HD-SDI card in addition with a firmware upgrade for the C3-340, CORIO®matrix.

TV One’s C3-340, CORIO®matrix is a unique Matrix Router that uses modular hardware with 16 AV module slots for I/O modules along with scaling output cards and soft signal switching. Also, in addition to having a CORIO2 scaling engine for individual up/down scaling , aspect ratio and frame rate conversion of each output, the CORIO®matrix offers unique DVI-U I/O modules, which give users a variety of Input / Output connections. DVI-U modules within the CORIO®matrix allow for the ability to use any signal from Composite Video, Y/C and YUV, RGBHV and DVI-D plus HDMI signals. Just use a simple adaptor and you have the freedom of choice.
The C3-340, CORIO®matrix 4 Input HD-SDI card enables you to feed in 4 separate SD or HD-SDI signals into the CORIO®matrix, which can double the number of available inputs as the DVI-U and 3G SDI inputs cards have 2 inputs per module. In addition to input card release, a new firmware upgrade for the CORIO®matrix is also available. Firmware upgrade 1.44 enhances the features of the CORIO®matrix from a Video Matrix to a complete Audio and Video Routing Scaling Matrix.
Firmware upgrade 1.44 features an enhanced feature set which allows the ability to route embedded HDMI and SDI signals separate from the Video Signals. For example, you can use the HDMI Audio from Input 1 and combine it with the RGB Video Signal from Input 2 and output it as HD SDI Video signal in Output 1. This enhanced audio functionality with AFV and Breakaway Mode greatly enhances the performance of the CORIO®matrix. Also, in addition to embedded audio signals, external analog or digital audio signals can be used through the optional audio board for the CORIO®matrix and either embed/de-embed audio signals or even create a separate 8×8 audio matrix inside the CORIO®matrix system.

Major Businesses AT&T, Verizon see double-digit IPTV growth in Q3 2012

Michelle Clancy | 28-10-2012

IPTV continues to be a growth area for video in the United States, with the two biggest purveyors of the service, AT&T and Verizon Communications, both keeping up their records of subscriber additions in the third quarter of 2012.

AT&T saw a net addition of 198,000 U-verse TV subscribers and 613,000 high-speed Internet subscribers for the quarter—strengths that drove a 2% increase in wireline consumer revenue growth year-over-year—the telco’s best show in more than four years. U-verse TV customers totaled 4.3 million out of 7.4 million U-verse subscribers in the third quarter.

Third-quarter wireline revenue totaled $14.8 billion, a 1.6% decrease from last year’s figures, but its expenses, $12.9 billion, also decreased 2.1% year-over-year.

The news could be even better for the fourth quarter, as carrier is looking to convert at least three million of its 18 million DSL customers to its U-verse TV offerings. DSL broadband connections decreased by 42,000 in the third quarter, but the broadband average revenue per user (ARPU) increased almost 10% year-over-year as online video use has pushed users to convert to higher tiers of service.

“[Our] strong performance allows us to increase our free cash flow guidance to $18 billion or higher this year, exceeding our previous outlook by $2 billion,” said Randall Stephenson, AT&T chairman and CEO, offering full-year guidance heading into Q4.

Verizon meanwhile saw a 4.6% year-over-year increase in consumer wireline revenues, the highest in a decade; and consumer ARPU was up 10.3% year over year, to $103.86.

The company added 119,000 new subscribers for FiOS TV, ending the quarter with 4.6 million video connections. That was less than the 150,000 that the telco was expecting, but still a year-over-year increase of 15.4%. The FiOS network now claims 17.4 million households. Verizon said that it expects to add 150,000 new TV additions in the fourth quarter as well.

Together, AT&T and Verizon claim 8.9 IPTV customers, accounting for the lion’s share of the U.S. customer base. Overall in the U.S., IPTV subscribers will more than double to 18.6 million in 2017, according to Parks Associates. Parks also said that satellite’s share of the pay-TV market will drop to 30% by 2017, while cable’s share will fall to 52%, even as IPTV’s will rise to 18%.The resulting competitive shift will drive cable in particular to roll out innovative service bundles in order to retain customers.

The firm said that IPTV will thus lead the next stage in pay-TV service growth as telcos leverage their fibre-based broadband offerings to attract new customers with advanced IP-based features and higher speeds to accommodate connected set-tops and TVs. A new, big player on the scene will impact the market as well: Google is rolling out fiber-based, 1Gbps Google Fiber+TV in Kansas City.

“Cable TV providers are losing subscribers to IPTV services from AT&T, Verizon and CenturyLink,” said Jim O’Neill, Research Analyst, Parks Associates.. Satellite providers also will experience subscriber loss as telcos continue to expand fiber footprints, leverage pricing on triple- and quad-play bundles, and offer advanced TV Everywhere products. Going forward, subscriber retention will become the focus for cable and satellite providers.”

US analyst sees IFA as the world’s leading electronics trade show

Berlin (dapd). According to US blogger and analyst Michael Gartenberg, when IFA opens on Friday the big-name manufacturers and retailers from the US and Asia will also be in Berlin. “IFA gives the US market a good indication of what will soon be on the market here”, said Gartenberg in an interview with dapd. IFA already sets the pace worldwide and lays down the topics for other shows such as CES in January in Las Vegas.

“Nowadays a press release from Berlin is picked up and discussed immediately in the US”, said Gartenberg, commenting on the growing attention that IFA commands. Gartenberg is an IT industry observer for market analysts Gartner. IFA’s importance will continue to grow: “We have not yet reached the point where trade shows such as IFA are becoming less important or irrelevant”, said Gartenberg.

CES, its competitor, is still more important in North America. However, globally speaking “IFA’s influence is big, in the US as well as in South America and Asia”. According to Gartenberg IFA’s success has less to do with its timing, shortly before Christmas trading begins, but more to do with Berlin: the show benefits from the city and its location at the heart of Europe. What is more the exhibition grounds are bigger than in Las Vegas, allowing IFA to display an even wider range of products.

Gartenberg sees no signs of the industry’s major players shunning electronics trade shows. The decision whether to exhibit or not depends on each individual company’s situation. Apple is a special case anyway: “They know that everybody will be talking about them even if they are not exhibiting at IFA “, said Gartenberg.
